Background and Inspiration
Dina Rossi’s life work has always been about creating beauty. A working artist, Dina operated a successful commercial photo studio for 32 years and has a BS in Photographic Arts & Sciences. As a photographer, she refined her style, combining the play between shape, color, texture and light to produce exquisite images.
Closing her studio at a time when the world needed more beauty and harmony, Dina began to explore the creative world of paper floristry. Since 2018, she has immersed herself in countless hours of courses, and worked her way through leading books on the art of crepe paper flowers. Crafting crepe paper flowers that bring joy to others is now her passion.
Along the way, Dina has developed her own style and techniques to create handcrafted blooms that are beautiful and botanically accurate, as if fresh from the garden. Hundreds of hours and thousands of petals later, Dina is again finding daily inspiration in shape, color and texture as she transforms crepe paper into glorious bouquets.
Behind the scenes, Dina also credits the patience of her ever-supportive husband, Roberto, and the constant encouragement of her daughter, Arianna, for the successful launch of Petals to Blooms.
My Medium
Every flower at Petals to Blooms is entirely crafted by hand. Dina begins with a scissor, some paper, a template, a length of wire, and most importantly, her hands. A flower is coaxed into life as Dina cuts, twists, folds and puckers the paper. Pastels and dyes are carefully applied for realistic details. Stems and leaves are as important as petals, and created with the same artistry. Just like Mother Nature’s own, each flower is a one-of-a-kind treasure.
Dina sources her materials from around the world. Cartotecnica Rossi in Italy (link) and Werola (link) in Germany produce high-end crepe paper in an extensive variety of colors and weight. Through trial and error, Dina has found that each paper lends its particular characteristics to a flower. Her library of imported crepe papers ranges from 180-gram, heavy-weight paper with tremendous stretch, to a much thinner, 60-gram paper with unmatched delicacy, to doublette that is both smooth and durable.
